S. "Soup" Dempsey (hi hello that's me, the man behind the curtain!) is a transsexual man from the northwest side of Chicago. He is an undergraduate student of Theology in his senior year at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH where he is heavily engaged in student queer and faith life. Through the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice, he has led a faith retreat and a service trip to the Ruth Ellis Center for queer youth in Detroit. He co-leads the only on-campus prayer group specifically for LGBTQ+ students and continuously engages faculty and students alike in advocating for trans+ rights.
While he does not have any plans set in stone beyond graduation, Soup knows that above all else his career goals involve building and engaging with larger queer and faith communities while continuously fighting for the recognition of the unique gifts trans+ people bring to the church. When he's not studying or attending one of his extracurriculars, Soup can be found jamming to music, creating digital artwork and collages, writing poetry and short stories, making TikToks, playing with his dogs Soleil and Nova, annoying his younger sisters Eva and Juliet, or daydreaming about being at Big Sand Lake. keep scrolling to see some of Soup's artwork included in issue #1 of the Transient Theology Zine! |
